We are a Benevolent Society, making monetary contributions to valuable organizations, as well as, collecting tangible donations for local social service agencies.

Each Lodge participates in their local communities.

In 2023 Svea's activities included:

  • Members collected food items and assembled 35 dinner bags for the folks taking shelter at St. John the Baptist overflow shelter.
  • Human Trafficking is the second largest criminal industry.  We labeled small bars of soap with the Human Trafficking Hotline number on them.  These bars of soap are distributed to hotels to help spread awareness and perhaps a life line to someone in a dangerous situation.
  • We collected items for the Erie Humane Society to help care for the 130 cats rescued from a residence in Erie.
  • Svea collected bottles of body wash and shampoo for Holy Trinity Church's shower program.  Their gym showers are made available to area homeless neighbors.

Drott Lodge participates in the Swedish-American Plogging Group.  They have adopted a trail in the Vienna, Virginia area!  See their community Adopt a Trail signage below.

The Old Age and Benefit Fund, managed by the Grand Lodge is made available to members with a monetary gift up to $3,000, depending on age and years of membership.  Applications are filed through the Local Lodge.  The eligibility matrix and application can be accessed from the Our Story tab - Benefits to membership.

What to Know:

Plogging is a term invented by Erik Ahlström referring to the act of picking up trash and litter while jogging. It is a portmanteau of the Swedish term plocka upp, which means "to pick up," and jogging. Gloves recommended!

Other variations include “plalking” (walking while picking up litter) and “pliking” (biking and litter cleanup). Plogging not only helps keep your community litter-free, but is also good for your health. Think squats while jogging.
